Review for Donna Grant's DARK ALPHA'S COMMAND

 Rating: 4.5

Balladyn has held many important roles within his lifetime. Queen’s Guard, King of the Dark Fae, and lastly Reaper. Balladyn cannot ignore the call that manages to breach the realms to reach him. He arrives just in time to save a certain Druid female. Balladyn believes the Fae Others are behind her attack, but he first needs proof. He feels oddly connected to Rhona and the Scottish Isle of Skye. Can Balladyn protect Rhona from her enemies? Or will they be overwhelmed by their common enemy?

Rhona is the leader of the Skye Druids. A position she feels that she does not deserve. Rhona travels to Ireland only to be ambushed and left for dead. She never expected a Reaper – and not just any Reaper but the former King of the Dark – come to her rescue. Now Rhona, with Balladyn’s help, must figure out who amongst her clansmen betrayed her. Time is against them. Who can Rhona trust? Will her magic be enough to help fight the evil that threatens her home?

At first, I did not care too much about Balladyn. He first appears in the DARK KING series as the villain. However, as the series progressed, my thoughts about him changed. Balladyn started to redeem himself in small increments, proving that he is not completely evil. I am just happy that he finally found the place he belonged, and he found a person who truly loves him. If anyone deserves that happiness, Balladyn does. I love how Balladyn helped Rhona find her footing as a leader. He let her know it is okay to have self-doubts, but sometimes those doubts manifest unnecessary problems.

Rhona is another familiar name. She has appeared here or there in the DARK KING books, especially towards the end. I like how Rhona is still floundering in her leadership role. She continually wonders why her predecessor had chosen her. I also like that Rhona often second guesses her decisions. It proves that she is just like any other human, plagued with their self-doubts and insecurities. What I admire about Rhona is that she did not judge him unfairly because he is a Dark Fae. She knew there was more to him than what the world believed.

DARK ALPHA’S COMMAND is book fifteen in Donna Grant’s paranormal romance series, REAPER. It is also the start of her spin-off series called THE SKYE DRUIDS. These two series are intertwined with her DARK KING, DRAGON KING, DARK SWORD, and DARK WARRIORS world. I love that the Warriors from DARK SWORD and DARK WARRIORS have an important role in the story. Also, familiar characters from the DARK KING and DRAGON KING books appear towards the end.
